Haihui Yang’s personal reflection on artistic Representation
This Chinese ink painting is called “Shrimp”. It’s by one of
the greatest artists in China, Qi Baishi. This work was created in 1950 when he
was 83 years old. I like this ink
painting not only it’s a high value of collection, but also it is Chinese traditional
art work. Master Qi had a great talent
in ink printing. He started to paint
shrimp when he was 78 years old, but this work shows his highly skill in printing.
Every details of the printing, the actions of shrimp in the water, that all
make these shrimps looks like alive on the paper. Collectors comment on his
shrimp painting as using a camera and taking a snap shot. The painting features
all come from his great observation in his daily life and observe how shrimp
live under the water. You might think this is a very easy painting. But in
contrast the easier ink painting the more skills it required. Master Qi has been practiced in shrimp
painting for almost 20 years. Now a shrimp painting from master Qi could worth
hundreds thousand dollars. His art works become popular collections by Chinese
collectors even world wide.
